From a public relations standpoint, if you worked for a greeting card company, florist or chocolate manufacturer, how would you persuade the public to buy from you rather than your competition?

Sooo…I had a boyfriend once who I took to a Black Eyed Peas concert (random, I’m not a big fan but they were great) that decided that (after I paid for a hotel room for our group and concert tickets) he would get me something from the Cracker Barrel we stopped at on the drive home. Well, at this family-friendly store, he purchased me a scarf and a gooey squeeze toy — a.k.a. children’s toy. Wow — how romantic. I get that we were on the road, but we returned on Valentine’s day. After that blow to the heart, he decided that he’d just order us pizza when we got back. Needless to say, I ended our 8-month relationship a month later after realizing that I was dating a friend of mine, rather than a boyfriend. Poor fella.

When I receive a present that I am not particularly fond of, I just say thank you anyway. The fact that someone thought about me when buying gifts would have made me feel special and therefore, I would find a reason to like the gift.

In order to persuade the public to buy from you rather than your competitors, you must do something that causes you to stand out against them. In essence, find a way to market your product or service that will appeal to the mass while still reahcing your target audience.

Social media has changed the PR world in a MAJOR way. We are now able to have constant interaction with our consumers as well as those who may be considering trying our product/service. In addition, our clients are able to update audiences on what is going on and provide an opportunity for Q & A. The social media world has made it possible for us to provide a more personable approach to working with consumers, and therefore, increasing our profits.

For example, consumers are able to write on social media sites and since the sites are immediate, they receive an immediate response from a real person making them feel significant. Consumers no longer have to feel like they’re talking to a machine or recording. Therefore, for this reason I think that the change has been a good.

Companies that allow professional who are not experienced in the public relations field are taking a risk because they may not have an extensive background in how to gain friends/followers of their site which can make the site less effective. PR professionals are trained on how to gain consumer interaction (asking questions that will receive responses or posting status/tweets/blogs etc.)

Overall, I think that social media is a division that should be controlled by a PR professional who knows how to interact with clients or consumers in a way that will benefit the company not only right now but in the future as well.

I have to be honest in this post, simply because there’s no reason not to be. I have only read one book before seeing a movie and that was “To Kill a Mockingbird”. To be even more honest, I was forced to read this book in my middle school/high school years and I was pretty annoyed by that. I prefer to read books that I want to read, not those that are assigned to me. I find that I enjoy books more when I know that I am not going to be tested on them and it can be for pure pleasure rather than miniscual details.

However, after reading the book, I found that I did enjoy the movie more than I thought I was going to. This story was actually a pretty interesting one and that helped me to stay focused and take the million quizzes that I had over it.

I don’t have time to read much other than my books that I read for my classes; however, when my life is no longer consumed by classes, I think that I might pick up reading a bit more. In the past, I have chosen to take the easy way out by watching the movie and then trying to skim the book after, but now I like to pick out the differences between the book and movie.

I still seem to prefer the movie because it is entertaining and my brain doesn’t have to work harder than necessary. So, since the only book I’ve really read before seeing a movie was “To Kill a Mockingbird”, I guess that it will serve as my “favorite.”

1.) Get right with the Lord – Everyone’s day will come and I want to be ready

2.) Sky dive.

3.) Get married.

4.) Have some chillen’

5.) Travel the world – Ireland, Austria, Switzerland etc.

These are just a few of the things I want to do though. As far as my post-college plans go..I’m not quite sure yet. I have a potential opportunity with a leading medical equipment company that I am praying will pull through, but I always keep my options open. I want to live somewhere that will make me happy and have a career that will have me jumping out of the bed in the morning with excitement. I am driven and finally know what I want in life. Now I just have to complete the puzzle within the next few years.

A bucket list is great, but I don’t like to plan things unless it applies to work or school. I am all about an adrenaline rush and spontaneity. I think that having a bucket list will cause unnecessary pressure, especially if I ended up being unable to fulfill everything on that list. Hence the short list above.

Life is about seeking out opportunities and seeing where they take you…but what you decide to make of those opportunities is completely up to you. Life is too short to sit around and wait for things to be handed to you — I was reminded of this Monday when an amazing friend of mine passed away in her sleep. Her passing reminded me that every day is a blessing and therefore you have to keep in mind that it could be your last, so keep on truckin’ and keep the faith. R.I.P. Martha McGraw. I love you.

Well, this semester was quite strenuous for me. I had an 18 hour load plus an internship at GSU Career Services – in addition, we hosted several events over the semester that required a TON of work. However, I learned SO much this semester. I learned that I’m determined, driven and I will be successful. I learned that when I do something – I do it well.

There have been countless highs and lows.

Looking forward to a trip to NYC this Christmas.

Gaining so much experience from my internship that I can actually take into the real world.

Gaining new friends and strengthening old friendships.

However, the lows included the 18 hour workload.
